Hypnotherapy FAQs
Does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works for most people. It depends on your suggestibility, the vividness of your imagination, and your desire for change. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and most people have experienced this when reading a book, watching a movie, or while driving – where we lose track of time. Your hypnotherapist will work with you to feel comfortable with the process so you feel safe to explore what you wish to change.
Is Hypnotherapy effective?
Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious energy of the mind and body. Our subconscious can hold us in patterns of behavior or habits for reasons we may not consciously understand. Hypnotherapy gets to the root of the issue, and the suggestions you make with your therapist help to reprogram the subconscious so you make lasting change in your life.
Why is more than one session recommended?
Complex issues may require more than one session to be fully addressed. The hypnotherapist can only work within the timeframe scheduled which may not allow for you, the client, to complete the work. If you’ve never experienced hypnotherapy before – you and the therapist may need to discover your suggestibility style and which induction technique works best for you. Your subconscious speaks to you in ways you may not expect, so an introduction is necessary for someone who hasn’t experienced it before.
Does Hypnotherapy make you do things you do not want to?
A client-centred focus means we work on what you ask to work on. When you’ve booked an appointment, you have agreed with your hypnotherapist that there is something in your life you want to change, or explore. Through various methods, your hypnotherapist will work with you to explore what is necessary to achieve the desired outcome, be it past lives, reframing past events, releasing chronic issues, or finding lost items. Your therapist will help you to find the right suggestions to make the subconscious changes you wish to make.
Am I aware of what is happening?
You will be aware of what is happening while under hypnosis. You will be able to hear your hypnotherapist and answer questions. While under hypnosis, you are also able to ask to be taken out of the hypnotic state. You may experience time distortions – hours seem like minutes, or minutes like hours. Afterward, most clients recall the session in detail.
I’ve never done this before. I’m afraid of not being in control.
You are always in control even under hypnosis. You are aware of what is happening, and are able to communicate with your therapist throughout your session. Your hypnotherapist will work with you to feel comfortable with the process and to understand what is happening every step of the way.
